Who We Are

OUR purpose

The USC Beaufort ACM Chapter is a local, neighborhood friendly organization for the Computational Science program. Our organization promotes the engagement of educational gatherings for the community, motivating students to network and acquire real-world experience. The CSci department alongside ACM, direct the academia to advance further in their technical skills and maintain a keen understanding of the ever-changing technology landscape. USCB CSci scholars enrolled in this versatile program, are lead to become highly skilled computational scientists. Students who proceed through the curriculum are sought after by a variety of employers in the Carolinas and along the eastern coast.

In addition, USCB's ACM provides its members with the ability to do generous acts for the locality by interacting with real clients to develop web-based applications, enhancing their initial resum├ęs. Through the use of effective teamwork and learning from others, goals are achieved. The department encourages our close-knitted family to facilitate the Beaufort Digital Corridor, our local incubator, to complete projects in conjunction with the university's resources. As the demands of the community grow, stimulating the need for computational scientists, the chapter guides our youth to seek jobs within the Lowcountry.

ACM stands for the Association for Computing Machinery and is widely known for being the most substantial organization in the computing society. The association is an advocate for digital research and promotes the integration of experts within the industry. It gives members the ability to participate in all of the professional functions it offers, sponsoring over 860 student chapters around the world.

Local Chapter News

Remembering our dear friend and former classmate, Nick Becker

In deepest respect of Nick, we have a slideshow of pictures and a video from class that express our fondest memories of him.

Included is an article from the Beaufort Gazette and a tribute by the USCB Sand Sharks.

To the left is Nick and his dog Roxy enjoying a beautiful day out in the sun!

"Operation Nick" is a charity campaign set up by CSCI senior Jonathan Dayton in memory of Benjamin Nickolas "Nick" Becker to benefit veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, more commonly known as PTSD. Click here to learn more about the gofundme campaign.

Friends, members, non-members, are welcome! Our club favors team trivia taco nights while listening to eclectic playlists, attending CODEtalk events in downtown Charleston, participating in workshops at our local incubator, and unwinding in the sun at our annual pig pickin' cookouts.

And be sure to check out our USCB ACM Chapter Facebook page, as well as our CSci@USCB page. It's a great way to stay up to-date with the most recent news and to be informed of the best technical practices. The Computational Science department has an exclusive group to help our students find open job positions on the USCB CSci Job Postings blog. Log in and request to be added to this group to view the latest job openings in the computing industry.
